Our client, a leading general contracting firm specializing in diverse construction projects throughout the Washington, DC area, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their dynamic team. With a focus on excellence and innovation, our client collaborates with top-tier design teams and trade contractors to deliver exceptional results in various construction domains, including base building, renovation, historic modernization, and tenant interior construction.
Responsibilities:
- Creatively and ethically solve challenging issues encountered during construction projects.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and RFPs to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Generate conceptual estimates and budgets for multiple upcoming projects.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and provide comprehensive scope sheets for procurement purposes.
- Review project documents to formulate well-written RFIs and identify potential inefficiencies or design omissions.
- Foster and manage relationships with subcontractors through networking events and office visits.
- Support operations with change orders and proposal development.
- Evaluate bid specifications and attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
- Participate in project interviews as necessary for contract award.
- Maintain a qualified subcontractor bidders list and facilitate effective communication of scopes of work.
- Identify and mitigate potential project risks.
- Collaborate with the marketing department to prepare RFP responses.
- Develop and nurture relationships with new and existing clients through value-driven preconstruction efforts.
Requirements:
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in estimating and/or project management within the general contractor industry.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity with principles of architecture, engineering, and construction.
- Strong technical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Proficiency in reading specifications, plan designs, and technical details.
- Understanding of the RFP and bidding processes.
- Proficient in mathematical and analytical skills related to cost and pricing.
- Working knowledge of construction project management software, particularly Procore.
- Competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience in interacting with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors.
